The firm was founded in 1910 in Indianapolis, Indiana under the name of Henley Matson and Gates. In 1929, Harry Ice joined the firm. Following a series of name changes, in the 1950s, the firm operated as Ross McCord Ice and Miller. The firm changed its name to Ice Miller Donadio and Ryan in 1963.
